Sampled on-tap at the brewpub.
This ale poured a cloudy, deep red amber color with white foam that settled. The smell was nicely malty with aromas of molasses and dark caramel. The taste was malty with notes of molasses sweetness and a touch of grain and light hops coming in the finish. The mouthfeel was very smooth, almost creamy, with medium body and light carbonation feel. There was a light touch of sweetness, but not overly so, and was on the dry side overall. This was a very enjoyable beer and seemed to improve with every sip.

On-tap at Redbones for lunch on 11/2/5. Went very well with my pulled pork sandwich. Much better than te Sam Adams version. More flavor, less overly sweet.
Poured a dark brown color that reminded me of my mom's coffee table growing up. Light was really trying to pierce through the beer but was unsuccessful. Thin sparse head that disappeared quickly. Heavy carbonation with lots of bubbles that caught my eye and caused the thin film on top to spin counter-clockwise.
Nose was slightly caramel with some hops in the background.
Roasted malts that came through as slightly sweet toasted caramel and hazelnuts at first. But the sweetness mellowed to a slightly biting smokiness. Which was quickly followed by a nice hop bitterness that made me look at this brown ale a bit askance and saying to myself: "Nice beer."
Medium body that is lighter than I expecte because of the carbonation. Little bit slick.
Incredibly drinkable beer that was yet again a great complement to my BBQ. May have to make my way down to CBC for a growler of this later.

Discussed the stamp tax with this one on 11/1/2005. 16-oz. pint in a shaker glass at Redbones, though would have preferred it at the source.
Gauzy, thin layer of almost no foam that doesn't leave any stick as the libation is emptied. Kind of a mahogany, woody brown hue with some light haze that makes it hard to see any action. Caramel, butterscotch on the nose that is deep and inviting, like the wood that's dark and deep, but I've got miles to go before I complete this ale. Roasted character hits first, followed by a nutty brown ale character and just a tiny bit of trailing hop sparkler. Medium body and quaffable, to the extreme.
Present at the recent NEBF, prefer this over the SA Colonial Ale. Much more body/substance to the proceedings, and a bit more crisp on the tongue.
