Dark brown color where light barely passes on the extreme edge. Beige head of one finger which settles to foam and rim bubbles. Plentiful spotting on the glass for lace.
The smell is a combination of chalk and chocolate. Semisweet.
This beer harks back to the days of Porters being darker, more flavorful brown ales. The body is lighter than one expects from today's version but certainly within expectations. Lowly carbonated. The finish is like cocoa but short in the aftertaste. The flavor also features some homebrew crudeness which exentuates the complexity.
