Another solid brew from Cambridge Brewing. A dense dark brown, kind of cabinet-like, nice dense tan head. Very malt oriented in terms of taste and smell. Lots of molasses, lots of dark carmelly malts, a bit of burnt roastiness. Slightly smoky, with a big nutty flavor and lots of complexity with a kick of warming alcohol. Slightly chocolaty. And all that in a really smooth, barely medium bodied, light-on-the-palate sort of beer. Lots of scotch ales are too sweet, this one isn't at all. That being said, there's barely any hop bitterness to this beer, as it sort of blends in to the burnt malts. A great well rounded, almost refined scotch ale. Yum.

Presentation: On tap.
Appearance: Deep leather brown with ruby hues. The head is a full two fingers and holds its own all the way down.
Smell: Very rich caramel with hints of over caramelized sugar and a whiff off buttered toffee.
Taste: Chewy malty body with a burnt sugar / toffee flavour up-front. Then comes a mild acidic twang from the roasted malt flavour that soon goes hand and hand with an evening hop bitterness. Undertones of roasted malt linger into the finish.
Notes: If its not Scottish its crap!! A sheer treat to drink and a bit deceiving topping out at 6.1% abv.
