Enjoyed at one of the barleywine festivals at the brewery. Reviewed from notes.
A - Poured a nice honey amber hue with a thin head that fades very slowly to leave a thin wispy blanket.
S - Aromas of light caramel and super, super faint barrel notes. The utopia barrel is really faint and somehow rather estery. Not getting much buffalo trace either. Everything is super subdued.
T - Taste is similar to the nose. Not a whole lot of barrel characteristics which is unfortunate considering the utopia. The inherent sweetness from the utopia does not really translate here. Little bit of caramel and more of the esters.
M - Mouthfeel has some decent body and carbonation with the alcohol hidden rather well.
O - Overall this was relatively disappointing. With Buffalo Trace and Utopia barrels I expected something much more assertive. Instead, the barleywine in general was rather muted. A shame...
