Conjured by the co-founders of the beer review website BeerAdvocate.com, this stout’s dense mocha head precedes a full-bodied brew with a rich, creamy mouthfeel and a hint of campfire smoke. Roastiness permeates the liquid, and hops added to the mash tun—unconventionally early in the brewing process—contribute to a lingering bitter finish.

On tap at Fresh Craft, always nice to try a new beer from Sierra Nevada. Dark black, no surprises in the appearance department. Aroma is a bit if roast malt but pretty faint. Flavor has a bit of dry chalkiness, touch of malt, just way too subtle for my tastes. Id take the standard Sierra Nevada stout over this any day if the week.

Near black color where no light shines through. Some spotty lace from diminutive head.
Strong smokiness. A bit of band-aide, unfortunately.
Quite dry without the typical burnt elements upfront. The swallow is quite mild without the stout elements. Thin bodied with good carbonation.
