Picked up a 6 pack at the source in Chico, CA. Always liked the artwork on this series, this one is no different. Nice brown pour, good clarity for a dark beer, slight, lighter brown head, 3/5" on the top. Aroma packs the brown malts and a mild earthy Cascade hoppiness.
Taste, more of the same, malt bill to style, brown, maybe even a hint of chocolate malt. Bitterness and hopping more than average but not at all out of style guidelines or Sierra Nevada doing what they do. Nice toasted earthy malt character, not watery like Newcastle. A little bit of toffee, carbonation right where it should be. Definitely a better than average brown ale.

Tasting notes from 12/23/16
Had on-tap@ Alley Katz in Citrus Heights, CA
Appearance - Served in a pint, the brew is clear and golden brown in color with a sandstone colored, half-finger width head. Good retention before breaking down to a thin, consistent layer of suds across the top. Good lacing, with chunks breaking off into streaks and small spotting.
Smell - Faint aroma. Floral and earthy hops with light, toasted bread.
Taste - Follows the nose. Weakly flavored, with floral hops the prominent character. Faint earth and a touch of toasted malt. Finishes quickly and without noticeable impression. Faint, floral note found lingering in the aftertaste. One of the weakest browns I've ever had the displeasure of tasting.
Mouthfeel - Light-bodied and low carbonation. Very watery finish.
Overall - A weak, watery brown. Budweiser Brown Ale would fit the bill. What gives, Sierra? I'm starting to think this 'Old Chico' line is meant as a way to punish us.
