Poured a rich reddish brown body that was semi-clear at the edges with a one finger tan head. A quite nice looking stout. Scents of vanilla, oak and bourbon upfront, with supporting aromas of nutty almonds, cream, sweet milk and light notes of coffee, milk chocolate and dark fruit at the end. Overall impression of aroma is of a very barrel and bourbon forward stout, likely due to the lighter nature of the underlying beer. It is still quite finely executed, with a very nice aroma. Flavor begins with a nice barrel-aged flavor, strong notes of vanilla, a light oak character and notes of bourbon. Medium notes of coffee and roast malt, medium-high notes of milk chocolate and medium-light notes of almond add depth. Middle becomes more forward in milk chocolate and coffee with cream flavors, high, going over the barrel-aging character which is present at medium-low levels and medium-levels of sweet almond nuttiness. Finish is medium-sweet, continuing flavors of vanilla, oak and bourbon at medium-high levels, alongside medium-high levels of milk chocolate and sweetened coffee with cream, along with a light almond flavor and faint roast malt. Aftertaste is milk chocolate and barrel-aged character upfront, moving into medium-light roast malt. Overall impression of flavor is of a rather sweet stout with a strong barrel-aged character that is quite nice and complex. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium-light carbonation and a smooth, slick, easy to drink feel. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a good stout, very smooth and not warm at all. Overall this is a nice barrel-aged standard stout. The addition of almonds is noticeable and quite nice and the barrel-aging character forms a solid counterpart to the base beer, which has a nice sweet stout character. Very nice and quite well done.
