This beer is a real treat! A rich, chocolaty Baltic Porter with an addition of toasted coconut and toasted almonds. The aroma is layered with a mild malty sweetness and slight hints of coconut. The flavor, however, is something truly special—toasted malt and caramel flavors, coconut, chocolate and a touch of almond all shine in this complex brew. It has hints of sweetness, but remains drinkable with a clean and refined finish.

What to say about this...

I love Sierra Nevada. Been a fan of them since I got into the beer scene well over 20 (!) years ago. Always wanted to get to Chico and I finally got a chance a few months back to have dinner at the restaurant attached to the brewery. Before I did that, I got to take a look at the place and this was the only canned beer that they had in the gift shop that I had yet to review on here. Indeed, I'm not used to these guys putting their product into cans but thankfully, this was fun to get my hands on as it was a flavorful and enjoyable take on a Baltic Porter that I'd easily have again!

Of course, this poured dark and of course, it had a nice head that was khaki, bubbly, and complemented the liquid nicely. A bit more lacing could have been left behind, although that didn't influence my opinion of this beer in the least. Tons of coconut in the nose, along with almond and a toasted undertone as the taste was much more rounded out. The Chocolate Malt emerged in the taste as the roasted barley, various other malts, and uncommon hops also came out in this. Toasted highly, roasted lightly, and full-bodied throughout, this was on par with their other offerings that I've had throughout the years with the end result being a potent and textbook example of this style, without becoming a cliche in any sense of the word.

Of course, that meant that the alcohol was spot-on as it warmed me up without overpowering everything else that was going on here. So glad to have made it out here and just as happy to have been able to pick this up. Canned on 9/19, this had an appropriately artful label the complemented the liquid nicely. I still love these guys after all of the years that I've enjoyed beer and a brew like this served as a reminder of why I feel that way today!

Dark mahogany brown body, clear when held up to the light, otherwise opaque in appearance; thick carbonation; good head at first, then fades to thin wisp, sudsy and light tan colored. Bold aroma of slightly charred caramel and coconut; roasted nuts; deep, earthy sweetness. Richly sweet flavor mimicking the aroma; oily coconut; dark brown sugar. Heavy body yet feels a bit weak for the style; plenty of residual sugar smoothness.

A generally fine American porter with a big coconut component. It is a bit weak in the appearance and mouthfeel departments.

16oz can purchased at the Mills River gift shop stamped 091922C poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 7.8% ABV 30 IBU per can label. The beer pours opaque dark brown with hints of ruby around the edges and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island of tiny bubbles. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring almond and coconut over dark chocolate. The taste is semisweet toasted coconut and almond over a caramel & chocolate malt base. Not much in the way of hop flavor, although there is moderate bitterness on the finish. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, well crafted and a dead on Almond Joy in a can experience.

Picked up a four-pack of pint cans from the Mills River location 4-2-21 for $19.99. Canned on 3-4-21; consumed first two cans on 4-4-21.

Beer poured a cola brown with a nice off white head with the original pour.

Nose is pleasing, with the coconut and toasted malts and almonds leading to a sweet dessert like medley of flavors.

Taste is a toasted malt baseline with an immediate coconut sweetness that is balanced by enough hopping to prevent a cloying finish.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and fairly refreshing.

Overall a fun beer to try as you do not see the Baltic porter style often. Nice flavor but could use more hopping for a cleaner finish.
