Mild grassy hop aroma, pours a clear amber with a full white head. Light bodied, mild pop of citrus, which fades out to a mild bitter finish. Light and easy drinking beer.

Can, packaged October 17th.

Pours a pale gold with an inch of foam and good lacing.

Hoppy aromas of pine and grass. I don't smell any malt; more often than not, typical of the style.

Pine, grassy bitterness, some toasted malt. The hops impart a resin like stickiness which I dig.

Light bodied but never watery.

Excellent Session IPA.

Appearance: golden yellow in color with a 1" head.

Smell: some citrus and floral tones are easily detectable.

Taste: caramel, grapefruit, grass, and a floral bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Crisp throughout with some dryness at the finish. Refreshing.

Overall: a real easy to drink beer and one of the more flavorful session IPAs I have had.

Picked up a 4-pack sampler of the fresh hop series from the Craft Beer Hop Stop 11-24-17 for $5.99 - thanks for building the pack Allen! Canned on 10-13-17.

Beer poured golden with a beautiful white head that is leaving a layer of lacing with each sip.

Nose is fresh lemon and grapefruit, quite nice!

Taste is grapefruit forward over a light malt bill. Finish is a touch of rind.

Mouthfeel is light and refreshing.

Overall a pretty solid session IPA.

Today is the occasion of my Happy New Sour/Sierra/Sara Nevada Nac Sunday (Week 673) & having accomplished the Sour & Saranac portions of today's madness, I am now turning my full attention towards Sierra Nevada, especially in the furtherance of The CANQuest (tm).

From the CAN: "Fresh hop flavor from field to CAN"; "Family owned, operated & argued over".

I read some reviews that mentioned a haziness while others did not so following the Crack!, I went with a gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. I am not necessarily a stickler for clarity, but I prefer to create & maintain it when I CAN as opposed to having a gloppy mess in my glass. I was able to empty the entire CANtents with nary a sign of haziness so I chalk that up as a success. An in-glass swirl raised just over a finger of foamy, rocky, bone-white head with modest retention that left behind some nice lacing as it fell to wisps. Color was solid Gold (SRM = 5), bringing forth The Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus who were licking their wounds as their beloved Black & Gold fell to JAX today in a classic example of hubris. Nose had a citrusiness like grapefruit and lemons along with a biscuit malt presence. Mouthfeel was a little thin, not watery, but I expect more in an AIPA. Once again, I think that Session IPAs should have their own separate style since they do not stack up well, IMHO, against some/many other AIPAs. The taste was decent, loads of grapefruit & lemon, but just not as pronounced as on the nose. It just lacked the Ooomph! that makes AIPAs so attractive to me. Finish was dry, almost powdery, making me think that it was close to saturation. If so, that is even sadder since it was lacking in terms of its overall flavor.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed golden color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The head fades rather slowly over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is a nice blend of pine and earthy hops with a little bit of a citrus smell. Along with these aromas comes some notes of tangerine and orange and a little bit of grass.
Taste – The taste begins with a cracker malt taste with some citrus hop and a little bit of fruit flavors of tangerine and harvest fruit. The dank hop are slightly lighter upfront, but get more pronounced as the flavor advances all while the sweeter fruit fades. The dank hop are mainly of a pine and herb nature with a little bit of an earthy hop flavor as well, which with the transitions that occurred, leave one with a lightly sweet, and nicely danked and lightly citrus hopped flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is light and crisp with a carbonation level that is fairly high. For the session style and the hop flavor profile being a mix of dank and citrus, the feel is rather fantastic and makes for an easy drinking brew.
Overall – This is a rather tasty and flavorful IPA with an easy drinking feel and nice hop blend.

2018 version
12oz canned 10-29-18
1" white head with a creamy mousse...fine, tight bead and long retention. Clear, clean golden IPA. Thick with lace. Great looking beer.
Weedy and dank with some citrus in the nose, impressive for a Session IPA.
Herbal, grassy, weed, and fruit in the main form of grapefruit.
Bright entry, light bodied. Medium carbonation. Front and mid-palate are good, falls off sharply after that - all that lingers is a light bitterness.
Really flavorful session beer, rating is for this 2018 version

2017 version
12oz canned on 10-13-17 (rated 3.81 on 11-18-17)
1-1/4" white head from an aggressive pour, great retention and lacing. Clear, clean, pale golden IPA.
Weeds, green, fresh. Grass. Herbal.
Bitter and weedy, hops over a light malt base. Pine as well. Fruit might be a lemon oil flavor.
Packs a little bitter punch, long bitterness in the finish, clean mouthfeel, bright.
Enjoyed it and I'm a fan of the Fresh Hop 12 Pack overall.

From a can dated 10/13/17 to a tulip.
Pours to a light gold, subtle haze, borders on clear but not quite. Significant head, but it does fade to lacing and surface head after a few minutes.
Aroma is wet old grass. This is dank, but with a mild bite that I can't describe.
Taste is pretty awesome for a session, starts mild, hop "bite" comes on full at the back end.
Mouth feel is light but acceptable for a session. Carbonation seems appropriate.
Overall -what great 4.8% beer.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, white head of foam. Smelled floral and fruity with a touch of pine. Sweet citrus, toasted caramel and a hint of piney bitterness.

Poured from a 12 oz can from the Fresh hop SN Variety Pack.

A: Slightly hazy gold with 1-finger off-white tightly bubbled head with decent retention and prodigious lacing.

S: Weedy as in weeds in your lawn hop aroma (not that other weed guy) with pine cones and resin with a hint of grapefruit and floral. Malt is crackery pale malt character. No yeast character.

T: Flavor is more complex than the nose with a barely sweet pale malt base layer with resiny, dank, grassy hops flavor that leaps onto your taste buds. Bitterness is high (-) with no yeast character. It is verging on that diesel hops character but stops just short.

M: Very oily and slick with medium carbonation and light body.

O: Exceptional session IPA. I would not want this all the time but every so often this is a hit.

Not typically a fan of session IPAs but this one was good and made me a convert, even if only for one day. I don't recall having had a beer with Strata hops but it seems to suit a session IPA well. A nice, appropriate level of bitterness - it's there at the edges but never gets in the way of the grapefruit peel flavor I was getting.

Clear deep gold with three fingers of white head that lasts about five minutes. Nice lacing as the head drops.
Smell is dank and floral hops.
Taste is fruity grapefruit hops with just enough malt for the style.
The mouthfeel is light with good carbonation. The finish is lightly dry and moderately bitter.
Overall one of the best of these session IPAs.

Twelve pack variety pack copped from Bottle King in Morris Plains. Pours a golden effervescent hue with moderate frothing. Mellow aroma replete with hints of citrus and grapefruit. Similar overall flavor profile.

Poured from a can into a glass hazy yellow, the head frothy and white. The aroma is brisk and reeking of wet hops, very impressive. Wet hop goodness covers the tongue which mellows out then finally ends with a pleasant bitter bite. The mouthfeel is light-medium and the carbonation is mild. Not your typical cascade rich Sierra Nevada beer. I'm very impressed by their harvest series of beers. Wish I could find this by itself rather than in a mixed pack.

Appearance: Clean golden amber, with a huge head of foamy white suds. Lovely lace.

Aroma: Crisp tropical hops, fruity and fresh.

Taste: Bittersweet citrus and fruit hops, with pineapple and grapefruit coming through. Smooth with a clean finish. Very impressive and easy-drinking with enough hops to satisfy any hophead.
