Poured a light tawny colour. Reasonable carbonation, and showed-cased a modest head, that lasted an equivocally modest time. Aromas reminiscent of caramel and toffee, but more on the subdued side, similar to other contemporary Marzens. Gives hints of toasted biscuit with dark bread and moderate sweetness. Little hop aroma/flavor, mostly used to balance out any lingering sweetness. While not by any means a traditional Marzen, this lager delivers an above serviceable product, giving an American twist to this Germanic classic. The main point of contention here is that the beer is slightly light-bodied, but even so it is not unbearably thin, and if served in the right manner it can help mitigate this slight flaw. Overall, a pleasant Oktoberfest-style lager.

Picked up a twelve pack as September hits the far turn and prepares for the final stretch. Nose is malty with caramel and nut notes prominent. Very yeasty throughout the sip, which is noticeable but not necessarily a negative. Caramel and biscuit notes still prosper and the finish is smooth and satisfying, with a hint of resinous qualities. Not a usual tasting marzen, but interesting and drinkable.

Canned August 9th 2021.

Pours a clear amber with a long lasting head of foam.

Smells of caramel and bready malt, low sweetness level but lower bitterness level which fits the style.

Bready, nice caramel malt flavour, bitterness nearly non existent, easy drinking, good mouthfeel, an excellent non collaborative Oktoberfest from Sierra Nevada. Drink up!

12oz can served in a stemless wineglass. Dated 072621. Don't remember where I bought it.

Pours a dark amber, little to no head. Small amount of active carbonation. Clear. Smell is grain, tea, a little toffee.

Taste is moderate sweet, a little burnt caramel, moderate bitter. A little nuttiness.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly light and dry. Overall, it's a pretty good beer.

Smell - Mostly bread malt on the nose. Some floral hop characteristics.
Taste - You get toasted caramel malt taste upfront with a slight spicy hop aftertaste.
Feel - Semi-thick mouthfeel, but goes down easily, and is refreshing.
Overall - Strong caramel malt taste with not much else going on.

Compared to my top Oktoberfest I’ve tried this year from Germany the color is too dark and it tastes funky, like worcheshire? Not crisp, flavor lingers in a negative way. The collaboration they did with Bitburger in years past was solid, but I’m thinking they didn’t learn how to do this style alone.

Great Job this year Sierra Nevada - Better than recent years, super crushable. Very nice malty brew. I can definitely taste the caramel and honey. Very smooth. Solid brew, I will buy again.

12 fl oz pull-tab can:

5.5% ABV. "Amber Märzen."

A bit overcarbonated, blowing right through "crisp" into what I'd call "sharp." Malt flavours are pleasant enough; it doesn't bend too bready or heavy. But a bit less sweetness and a bit more toastiness is in order, and the malts don't taste as "fresh" as they tend to in the better German brewed expressions of the style.

Depth of flavour isn't dazzling. No noticeable Noble hop flavour is present aside from vague floral hop flavour I'd ascribe to almost any hop varietal (you know, hops being flowers and all).

Drinkable and enjoyable enough but just not dazzling...I had this side by side with Schlafy's expression of the style, which was noticeably better.

Crystal clear copper with dense light tan head, excellent retention, thick rings of lace. Absolutely gorgeous beer
Honey and toast malt aroma, a little bit of herbal-floral hops
Flavor follows aroma, a little bit earthy on the finish
Medium bodied with appropriate carbonation
A very well done version

Certainly better than I had expected, considering its very nondescript can. A nice clear amber. A nice hint of floral hops preceding a delightful floral hops taste. This is one that I do plan on purchasing again.

Pours a toffee-brown with a clear translucency. Head is a finger and a half of khaki foam. Aroma is toasty, caramely, nutty, earthy, and bready malts with some more emphasis on the earthy, bready, and caramely notes. Flavor profile is caramely, nutty, toasty, earthy, bready, crackery malts with more emphasis on the caramely, bready, crackery, and earthy notes. Like drinking some sort of hearty, German bread. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with an initial crispness that softens as the beer sits on the tongue. Overall, hearty bread Oktoberfest with quality malts displayed throughout. Simple.

Served in a 15.5oz Speigalau tulip from a 12oz can.

Poured from 12 oz can to .5l stein. Looks clear amber color with slightly off white head that falls away to a slight ring. Smell is bready, malty, caramel very subtle. Taste follows nose with sweet malty/bready front and middle. Back end sees some spicy hops with some bitterness and finishes with a caramel taste and sweetness. Feel is medium bodied with decent carbonation. Overall, not bad, but it's got a distinct caramel character and sweetness that reminds me of Sam Adams Oktoberfest with a bit more hop spice and bitterness.

Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest (2021 Edition)
12 oz. can
Jet Ink on the bottom of the can: Packaged 07/21/21

Big time caramel malt backbone and pear fruitiness with a hint of simple syrup drizzle. The mouthfeel is SOFT and drinkable, malty McGee with an apple juice kick. Minimal hop snap on the finish.

What we got here is a solid domestic interpretation of this early Fall staple. It's a basic bitch in the best way possible.

How wonderful is it to take a respite from the $17.99 Double IPA four pack of 16 oz. cans? I think I paid about $17 for a 12 pack of this offering and I'm slamming them with ease.

Sierra Nevada continues to drop subtle bombs and this one did not disappoint.

Happy September/Fall!

Cheers!

Looks clear dark amber, tan medium head dissipates quickly. Perhaps it’s just me but I detected almost no aroma.
Tastes slightly sweet with a graham cracker quality. Somewhat of a spicy finish, hops are perfectly balanced. Mouthfeel is medium. I think this is in the top 5 of American made Marzen’s.

Pours a pretty copper color with a tight creamy egg shell colored head that settles into a light cap.

The aroma is sweet from the caramel and doughy malt. Slight pepper spice. A bit of raisin.

The taste is sweet. Caramel stands out. Nice Munich malt note. There is a bit of a slight raisin sweetness, like you find in an oxidized brew. Its not oxidized but just reminds me of that flavor. Noticeable grain and pepper in the finish.

Light and crisp on the palate. Enough grassy hops to keep the malt in balance. Finishes slightly sweet.

A good marzen. Hits on all of the main characteristics.

Smell is malty sweet with brown bread crust.
Taste is sweet malts and herbal hops.
Mouthfeel is medium with modest carbonation. The finish is barely dry and balanced.
Overall a winner for the style. Can date is 07 26 21.

Picked up a 12 oz can as part of a mixed six-pack from Ingles Supermarket beer cooler on Highland Lake Road in Flat Rock on 8-19-21 for $10.97. Canned 7-7-21; consumed 9-7-21. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured a deep copper with a very nice white head with the original pour.

Nose has a toasted biscuit baseline with some floral hops lingering in the back.

Taste is nicely done. Wheat bread toast with a touch of biscuit that is kissed by a nice touch of honey sweetness and is balanced nicely by an earthy hop addition.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and fairly refreshing and smooth.

Overall a nice Marzen, really well balanced.

Bought a 6-pack cans $10.99 Target
28 days old
Smells lightly of caramel, molasses
Clear amber color
Medium-light mouthfeel
Medium-light carbonation
Tastes of caramel, molasses, kind of thin tasting
Overall a very sessionable beer as the flavors are on the light side. Too light for the style though.

12 oz can poured into a snifter. Pours a golden orange with a beautiful frothy head. Nice retention and lacing. Unfortunately the beer goes downhill from there, with an overly hoppy and fruity aroma and flavor. Some nice biscuit/bready notes, along with toffee, but overall it's unbalanced.

Purchased as a single can from Marathon for $.99. Poured into a crystal mug.

L - Bright copper with a three-finger pillowy pale tan head. Head retains well to the bottom of the glass.
S - Toasted biscuit and brown sugar, with little notes of stone fruit and cereal.
T - Caramel is super upfront. Dark wildflower honey and cracker. Notes of whole-wheat bread and sourdough throughout. Finish is mineral and grass, with a bit of a hoppy bite. Well-balanced.
F - Silky and medium-bodied, with mild carbonation. Easy-to-drink - a little too easy!
O - A very well-done brew! This hits all marks for a great Märzen, and would pair well with the food of the season (in my current case, some rabbit stew)! I recommend this, but probably won't seek this particular one, as it doesn't really impress upon me as "unique".

SN has made many a good oktoberfest in their years. Their collaboration with Brauhaus Riegel still to this day sits atop the throne of the style for me and is certainly the best lager to have ever been brewed in my own opinion.

Look - Murked copper with a fingers worth of off white froth atop as the crown. Medium carbonation and decent stick.

Smell - Super dark bready malts and prunes. Prunes and Prunes and dark bread.

Taste - Dark Bread. Prunes. Touch of orange rind deep off in the distance.

Feel - Thick and low carbed. Swallows easy enough. Sweetness turns up as it sits.

Overall - Perplexed. Definitely a fall weather beer. Super thick. I'm not a huge fan of prunes by any stretch of the imagination but I feel this beer does their flavor some justice. On one hand I could easily throw this back with Wurst and Kraut. On another hand again it's unusual. Just try this one for your self and come to your own conclusions.
