4th taster at Port Barrel Blast

A - Pitch Black, no head, only a light rim of medium mocha lining the outskirts of the glass

S - Bourbon up front with vanilla, then woodsy oak, and a sweet scent

T - Light bourbon, sweet smokiness, and dark chocolate with a spicy finish.

M - Highest carbonation but with a light feel, almost no alcohol heat except upon a big swirl/swish in the mouth - lingering bourbon flavor

D - Very nice, the sweetness and heaviness of the beer catch up a little as it gets closer to finish - still I wanted to have more of this, or was it the guy yelling at Barrel Blast declaring this was the best thing ever only an hour or so into the event? In any event I would recommend this - one of the best Sierra Nevada offerings I've ever had and definitely worth a taste if you ever get the opportunity...

Once received from the tap, this brew was opaque with a thin, tan head that left little signs of existance after the pour.

The aroma consists of vanilla, bourbon, wood/oak, roasted malt, and maple.

The flavor was very similar to the aroma with more focus on the bourbon and maple. Quite tasty.

Medium in body with medium to little carbonation with a bit of a bite from the wooden barrel aging.

Given all of the character this beer eludes, it was quite drinkable. Lots of flavor and aroma to enjoy with no particular trait taking over. Try it.

Empire Strikes Black was aged for over a year in 18 year old Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels. Enjoyed on cask at the Pizza Port Real Ale Fest. Pours ominous and impenetrable black with a foreboding creamy dark toffee head. The nose is of bourbon (lots of bourbon), dark toffee, caramel, vanilla, and oak. The chocolate is expressive and decadent. Outstanding aroma.

Hot bourbon chocolate toffee in the flavor with notes of oak and vanilla. Really good. Rich with a slightly dry finish. Thick cask mouthfeel. Awesome. This was the standout beer at the fest and I returned for many samples.
