On-tap at Strong Ale
A: The pour is viscous and just about black as night with a finger's worth of mocha colored foam.
S: Nose starts off with a great sweetness from vanilla, chocolate, and a touch of molasses. The smoke component is moderate and provides a nice depth rather than being all that you can perceive. Some roasted malt, light oak, and bourbon notes are present as well.
T: The flavor opens up with an incredibly smooth chocolate flavor that provides a nice creamy, sweet base for the beer. A nice roasted malt flavor, vanilla, bourbon, and oak compliment the chocolate well. The smoke here is significantly more mild, but still there in the background.
M: The body is medium with a low to medium level of incredibly smooth carbonation.
D: Leave it to Sierra Nevada to make a well done smoked beer. A great beer that was well balanced and very easy to drink.
