Our Bigfoot Barleywine-Style is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears to ambush unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. We matured this special barrel-aged version in oak Kentucky bourbon casks for nearly a year before unleashing it into the wild.

Poured from a big bottle at fridge temp into a snifter. Pours an opaque reddish brown with a relatively small amount of head (on a vigorous pour). Looks great!
The nose is insanely smooth. It's difficult to pick out much of the hops that typically define Bigfoot. Getting smooth toffee, plums, pears, slight citrus peel (yep, there is that Bigfoot!), and a slight mint note. Over time a light grassy note also appears. Excellent.
The taste is where the barrel makes a strong appearance. Nice oaky bourbon, citrus peel, smooth toffee, some vanilla, leather, raisins, plums, a very dry grainy note, a touch of clove, and a nice pine note.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied, dry, and comes with a citrus peel aftertaste. Maybe a hint of candy sweetness as well. Overall, this is an insanely beautiful creation. The bourbon and American barleywine merge perfectly. This is almost 7 years old to the day (just shy by 13 days), and it has aged wonderfully.

The look is classic Bigfoot, beautiful clarity and a massively dense and lumpy head. The barrel character is subtle but well incorporated into a wonderfully aged bruiser of a barleywine. The barrels partially subdue the brash caramel and toffee with light, mellow bourbon. Even what's left of the hop bite at the end is rendered almost candy-like by that most delectable of brown liquors. There are some subtleties at the edges like oak, cherry candies, and a little vanilla. This has aged really well, so glad I got to try this!

Picked up a 24 oz bottle at the Mills River Gift Shop 1-23-23 for $20. Packaged 3-29-16; consumed 3-16-23.
Beer was poured at 60-degree garage temperature, a deep reddish-brown with a beautiful off-white head with the original pour.
Nose is a very nice blend of high alpha hops and bourbon barrels.
Taste is the always enjoyable hoppy Bigfoot base beer which the malt base and yeast give a plum and jam notes. Alpha hops are still alive and kicking as they provide a nice spice balancing to the base malt. Bourbon barrels lend a delicate touch of boozy sweetness, nothing overly nuanced but i am getting a trace of vanilla. Finishes with a nice hop and bourbon spiciness; 7/10 on my bitterness scale.
Mouthfeel is full-bodied and very smooth with each sip being very enjoyable.
Overall a really enjoyable beer. I struggled with the nose and taste scores as this is not super nuanced but in the end it comes down to the enjoyment factor! SNBC did a nice job squirreling this bottle away for proper aging!
