This beer was quite unusual. I didn't really know what style it was supposed to be, so it was difficult to review. The presence of wheat flavor and texture really threw me off. Knowing more about it has increased my appreciation.
Thanks, sierranevadabill, for providing the below information:
This was a one-off draft only release that we brewed with the folks from Breiss Malting for the Craft Brewers Conference in San Francisco. It features a new black wheat malt that they are making.
Brewed with our friends from Breiss Malting, Black Vapor features the unique Midnight Wheat Malt in this California Common-style beer that is anything but “common.” This hybrid beer is deep-dark brown with pronounced hop notes, a slightly roasty malt body, and dry finish with a mild wheaty tang, making this an interesting
and drinkable brew.
ABV: 5.0 %
Original Gravity: 13.2 ˚P
Final Gravity: 3.5 ˚P
Bitterness Units: 38 IBU

Malts: Briess Pilsner, Caramel (40L), Midnight Wheat
& Bonlander Munich
