Split a membership for 2024 and received 2 bottles at the AHS Breakfast Party at Mills River on 4-6-24. 2024 bottling; consumed bottle #1 6-8-24.
Beer poured dark brown with an okay off-white head.
Nose is blackberry forward with a touch of vanilla in the background.
Taste is a large malt base that is heavily influenced by the brandy barrels flavor wise as well as brings a heat with each sip. Base beer yeast does not impart perceptible esters. After multiple sips i am getting a berry waffle vibe going on. Finishes somewhat sweet but definitely not cloying.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied but is not comparable to traditional brews in this style.
Overall a fun beer to try and the brewing team accomplished a liquid waffle which is pretty amazing!
Bottle #2 consumed 8-11-25:
This bottle has been sitting in my beer fridge so mostly at 35-40 degree temps for over a year. This liquid waffle is still drinking warm at 13.2% abv as the blackberry brandy barrels lends all the heat to this. The blackberry-maple-vanilla flavors make this sweet but the barrel lends a helping hand to keep this from being cloying. Still a nice sipper, no change to the 4.17 overall score.
