A master-blast of hop intensity - stone fruit, berry, & citrus - from a powerful blend of concentrated hops whose pounds-per-barrel equivalent is downright mad.

Who Runs Bartertown? from Sierra Nevada Brewing. Purchased from Sierra Nevada on-line, 25/04/25. 16 fl oz can, $8.64 (Including shipping), $ 0.54/fl oz. Reviewed 17/05/25 (Review 3528). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on the can bottom “11 021325.” Stored at 39 degrees F at home; served at 48.9 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 59.9 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Pale Gold (SRM 4), clear.
Body – Deep Gold (SRM 6), clear. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, same
Head – Large (Maximum five cm, aggressive center pour) – can began foaming out as soon as the top was opened. Cotton, high density, average retention, collapsing to a 0.4 cm undulating crown and a thin, partial cap. Much three-dimensional lacing remains.
Lacing – Fair – just what remains after the head initially retracts.
Aroma – 3.5 – Flowery hops. No yeast, no alcohol, no roasted malt.
Flavor – 3.5 – Flowery. No yeast, no malt. No alcohol (7.8 % ABV, according to the label). No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Distinctly lacking the advertised flavors – undetectable citrus, just a hint of stone fruit and/or berry. Ghostly gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Medium: slightly creamy: soft but lively carbonation.
Style: Follows the loose style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 Uncredited label artist. The wheat and oats give this a smooth, almost silky, mouthfeel – the high point of the brew. Aroma and flavor are weak and flowery, distinctly lacking any citrusy input from the citra or comet hops. The well-hidden ethanol is the only hint of an imperial IPA.
