This outlaw defies convention. Not a Pale Ale, not an IPA, The Taker is an Extra Pale Ale with a blast of fearless flavors of citrus and tropical fruit. But that dry finish is gone as quick as it came - always leaving you wanting more.

The Taker XPA from Sierra Nevada. Four-pack of 16 fl oz cans. Reviewed 17/06/25 (Review 3542). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on the can bottom “11 052925 08:20.” Purchased 05/06/25 from Sierra Nevada on-line. $ 25.00 (including tax)/$ 0.591 per fl oz. Stored at 37 degrees F at home. Served at 45.7 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 48.2 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.25
First pour – Pale Straw (SRM 2), crystal clear.
Body – Pale Straw (SRM 2), clear. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Large (Maximum five cm, aggressive center pour). White, high density with a rocky top, average retention, dropping to a 1.0 – 1.8 cm irregular crown and a rocky, partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – Weakly generic citrus fruit. No yeast, no alcohol, no malt.
Flavor – 4.25 – Begins slightly bitter with a weak generic citrus flavor. No yeast, no malt. No alcohol (5.6 % ABV, according to the label). No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No gastric warming. Slightly chalky aftertaste.
Palate – 4 – Medium: watery: lively carbonation.
Style: Follows the loose style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 Uncredited label artist. Both flavor and nose are pleasing and pleasantly refreshing and dry – goes down fast and easy. None of the advertised tropical fruits found. Think I’ll have another!
