From 06/07/12 notes. Had this a few months ago at EBF, but now reviewing it off tap at RFD during Lupulin.

a - Pours a very dark brown color with a few off white bubbles and light carbonation evident.

s - Smells of clay, bread, wheat, grains. Not real bourbon, pretty bland and average.

t - Tastes of bourbon, oak, roasted malts, clay, bread, wheat. MUCH better than the nose, very nice and the bourbon isn't overpowering.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not hot at all, easy to drink.

o - Overall a pretty good BBA quad and better than their Brandy version in my opinion. Would like to have it again.

Keg from EBF.

Dark hazy brown dirty water color, light fizzy head.

Nose bourbon, brown sugar, candy, vanilla, bit of barrel, great!

Taste semi sweet, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, light barrel and vanilla, bourbon, hint of cocoa, slight touch of esters, malty and tasty.

Mouth is fuller bodied, decent carb, bit of warming booze.

Overall pretty good, nice quad flavors, nice bourbon, not too much booze, wish I could have more.

This one poured out as a nice looking brownish amber color with a thick tan head on top. The smell of the beer didn't really remind me too much of a Quad or a Bourbon aged one either. The taste of the beer I thought was too spicy for a Quad, perhaps it was a sour mash Bourbon barrel that altered the flavors like that. Personally I prefer sweeter Bourbon. The mouthfeel was about average, I felt that the carbonation level was too high. Overall I prefer the Ovila Quad over this one any day.

Had this on tap at Mayor of Old Town

Tried side by side w/ the brandy version

A: Clear amber

S: Picking up dark malt, bourbon and some sugar

T: Don't get a ton of traditional quad flavor, get dark sugar, bourbon and some west coast hops

M: Creamy and smooth

O: an interesting beer, not sure I'd seek it out again, but definitely worth trying.
