In collaboration with St. George Spirits, Barrel-Aged Ruthless Rye was aged in barrels that once held Ruthless Malt Whiskey, that was distilled from Ruthless Rye ale. Think orange peel, vanilla-oak, caramel and pepper spice with a dry oak finish.

S - Toasted caramel, light spiciness, and Whiskey.

T - Toasted caramel malt base with light spiciness, Whiskey, and oak with just enough bitterness on the back side.

M - Big medium body with gentle carbonation and slight warming in the back of the throat.

Acquired 3-500 ml bottles from the Mills River campus 1-23-26. This is 1 of 2 new brews of the bi-monthly Friends of the Family drop. Consumed bottle #1 2-5-2026.

Beer poured dark golden brown with a nice white head that has some hang time.

Nose is rye forward with some citrus and floral hopping.

Taste is a pale rye malt base infused with hopping that imparts grapefruit and orange. Barrel imparts a ton of spicy rye. Finish gives me citrus zest and piney bitterness; 9/10 on my bitterness scale.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.

Wow. Rye city here. This is boldly spicey as the St. George malt whiskey barrel imparts a blast of distilled Ruthless Rye. Unique and well done from a hop head’s perspective!
