On draft at the brewery.

Poured a light copper hue with a whisp of foam.

The smell featured a spicy hop (more German than English) and a light sweet malt.

The taste was upfront spicy and herbal with a soft doughiness.

The mouthfeel was toward the lighter side of the style.

Overall a hop forward ale. Not as ESB however.

Served on tap at Hyde Park Brewing Co. Served without a head, so can't comment on that one, but beer is a nice tan-brown color. NIce bitter bite, balanced sweetness with a slight hop bite. Alcohol ABV is low on this one, combined with the taste makes a great session beer. I was talking to a local Brewer when I tried this beer and he said he organized an event called TAP NY. He also said that he brought the great MR. Jackson himself to this bar, and the SOB was his favorite beer of their offerings. Awesome to sit at the same bar as the Hunter himself, and of their beers, this is the best.

Appearance: slightly hazy orange color with a one finger head that lingers a while. No real lacing develops.

Smell: very mild tones of sweet fruits and caramel candy.

Taste: caramel, brown sugar, ripe fruits, and a mellow dry bitterness. Simple and straightforward.

Mouthfeel: lightly crisp throughout. Mild sweet fruit and caramel aftertaste that also emparts a bit of dryness on the tongue. Medium bodied.

Drinkability: another basic session beer from Hyde Park that you can sit at the bar and enjoy while conversing with fellow imbibers.

S.O.B=special old bitter tasted as part of a 6 beer flite at the brewpub. This is one of the few ale styles brewed, HYde Park brews ales and lagers with success. The pour is amber in color with small off white compact head. Slight hop in nose, nice. Light body, the flavor starts sweet and malty and continues to dry as it goes along. The finich is the climax of hoppy dryness as is the aftertaste. Nice beer, more like an APA or an IPA.
