Draught @ Brewpub: This one pours an opaque, very dark brown color. There was a very small tan head, and almost no lacing. It has a lighter aroma. Chocolate malt and earthy notes. The taste is decent enough, but a little light. Roasted chocolate malts and a hint of bitterness. Decent enough.

On draft at the brewery.
Poured a deep brown hue with a thin wispy white cap. There was decent retention and lacing.
The smell featured some roasted malts and caramel.
The taste consisted of doughy caramel malts, a light smokiness and an herbal hop.
The mouthfeel was toward the lighter side of the style.
Overall, an easy enough to drink black beer.

Appearance: black in color with a milk chocolate colored 1" head that break apart quickly. Some spots of lace develop.
Smell: loads of roasted malts and chocolate are easily detectable.
Taste: follows the nose as the roasted malts and slightly bitter chocolates dominate. Some prune sweetness and a mild bitterness round it out.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied, slightly heavy for the style. Aftertaste is long as the roasted malts and chocolates linger on the tongue. Lightly crisp throughout.
Drinkability: session beer here. Nice flavor that allows you to have a few of these at a clip.

Tasted at the brewpub as part of a 6 beer flite. THey have one dark beer available that rotates out of three and this was it. The pour was deep black with a brownish head and a malty aroma. The flavor started with malt sweetness as desired then balances out about mid taste. Nice subtle hop balance. The finish brings back our old friend malt and then is followed by a short sweet aftertaste.
