Oatmeal Java Breakfast Stout

Great to see this on tap at the Pizza Plant on Main last night,poured from a standard tap a near pitch black with hints of ruby when held in the light a thinner quick to fade mocha colored head atop.Big earthy tones in the nose along with lingering dark roast coffee and unsweetened bitter chocolate mainly,this is big and earthy if you like highly roasted stouts this would be your thing.Starts out with some unsweetened chocolate and wood with just a hint of of leafiness a big earthy dark roast coffee really comes thru in a lingering finish.After a bit the alcohol began to creep and the roastiness began to get to me a bit,all in all not a bad take on a big oatmeal stout but I have had better.

Almost black with deep red highlights. Nice smoke, tobacco, and coffee aromas. Flavor follows, with a nice balance of the above flavors blended well with chocolate and toffee notes. Bitterness is noticeable in the mid and on the finish. Hops linger in the aftertaste. Nice smooth mouthfeel, perhaps a bit on the thin side for an Oatmeal Stout. Drinkability is decent.
