This was Elevator's beer of the month for July. Out of a brown Elevator grolwer with a "Grolsch-style" stopper, it pours a hazy pale-gold color. The creamy two finger head shows fair retention and substantial lacing.
The aroma is distinctly Belgian--a strong presence of yeast and malt, accompanied by citrus, clove, and a suggestion of herbs. The flavor consists of citrus and berries, clove and bitter hops, and healthy yeasty quality.
The mouth is bright and acidic on the front, spicy and bitter, then finishes semi-dry on the back palate--well balance overall, though not overly complex. I had one on draft on the brewery preceding the growler, and the added carbonation improved the overall character of the beer.
This beer is very drinkable and pairs well with a wide array of food. Definitely a solid beer overall--though seems better when served right out of the tap and a little colder. The Saison is not dead yet.
