March 13th, 2015 - Part of the pilot series, the Esco Saison is another Stone entry into a style that seems to be very popular this year, though tweaked and twerked for San Diego palates. With a clear and calm body, it has all the look of a saison, but a nose dominated by white wine scents. The flavor has an extension of the white wine flavor, as well as some natural candy sweetness. The wine and other sugars cut off mid-taste and devolve into a grainy aftertaste, with a blend of the foretaste and aftertaste landing somewhere around the taste of Captain Crunch. And I rather like that.

On tap at the Stone Company Store in Pasadena, CA.
Pours a clear yellow with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, spice, herb, and yeast aromas. Taste is much the same with spice, herb, floral, and yeast flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of herb and spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice herb presence that makes this one refreshing to drink.
Serving type: on tap.
