Collaboration with Maui Brewing Company
With this special beer, Garrett & Greg introduce you to the welcoming spirit of the Aloha State. Echoing their past collaborations, this beer abounds with ingredients familiar to the islands—rich coffee and pounds of hand-toasted coconut—and introduces hazelnuts into the mix. The result is deeply rooted in Hawaii, San Diego, Europe and friendship, capturing the true essence of the word “aloha,” which also means on a deeper level “joyfully sharing life.” So sit back and slip into island time with this imperial beauty. Cheers, prost & ‘okole maluna!

Thanks to JLindros for sharing this bottle.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light wisps and a thin blanket.
S - Aromas of chocolate, nickels, little roasted hazelnuts.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of almost metallic chocolate. Decent coconut, nice nutty hazelnut. Good richness.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, lightly crisp.
O - Overall this was a solid enough beer with nice chocolate though a bit tinny.

Bottle.
A: Moderate chocolate roast malts, light coffee and coconuts very faint hazelnuts.
A: Black color, opaque, with a thick uniform, tan head with great retention and lots of lacing in the glass.
T: Moderate chocolate roast malts mixed with coffee, lightly sweet, with mild coconuts and very faint nuts, lightly boozy with a mild roast bitterness and dry finish.
M: Full bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: Solid; the beer is well balanced and quite drinkable, but would like the coconut and hazelnuts to be more prominent.

Overall not a bad beer. I would've liked to have gotten a little more coconut out of it with a little less carbonation but neither gripe is big enough to warrant me calling this one a miss. Tasty porter with hints of coconut and relatively light considering its a dark beer. This would make for a good warm weather porter.

Poured from a Magnum into a tulip
L: Dark, dark brown pour.. nearly black with creamy lacing.
S: Decadent... dark chocolate, coconut, hazelnut, and coffee. Roasty and rich.
T/F: Follows the nose. Sweet roasted sugars and grains... cocoa, espresso, and mild coconut flavor. Well balanced... a bit of hazelnut and vanilla. Medium bodied... hides its ABV. Warming... and increasingly complex and delicious as it warms.
O: This one was a treat... and a Magnum was perfect to share with a buddy. Super good beer.
