Thanks, Gregg!
Was texting Gregg on Nov. 10 and he told me about this beer that he really liked, that it was a hazy IPA with orange peel and Earl Grey Tea (front Point Loma Tea). No idea what Earl Grey Tea is, but heard it was a breakfast tea. After he gave it to me, I later looked it up and saw that the hop were Lemon Drop, Warrior, Citra and Loral. For sure I knew Citra, and have had Lemon Drop and Warrior a few times each, but can’t remember having Loral (but have heard of it). This was going to be interesting.
Poured a gold-to-light amber hazy color with three fingers of frothy off-white head. Slow creeping bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent spiderweb foamy lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled orange blossom, orange zest, Lemondrop, herbal, honey, toffee, caramel, tea leaves, hints of cocoa powder and light wood chips (I believe Warrior, but only have had a few times). A little pronounced in the crowler, maybe more tea notes. (Smell - 3.75)
The smell had me going this way with the taste. Something about those tea leaves/cocoa powder had me wanting more. This was even better. Got Lemondrop, herbal, orange zest, orange peel, peppery spice, cocoa powder, bitter tea leaves, honey, mint and green tea. Alcohol was nowhere near 9 pct. (or 8.8 pct.). (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, spicy finish. (Feel - 4.00)
This was an outstanding take on a DIPA. Not sure I need a whole crowler of this, but really liked it. (Overall - 4.00)
