Sampled at the brewpub in mid-August, the Phoenix rose from the ashes of the bar a cloudy pale gold under a 1/4 finger off-white head with excellent retention and some lace. The nose features sweet fruit and spice, mild but distinct. It offers a thick but not heavy mouth with minimal carbonation. The taste is definitely sour, definitely spicey, slightly fruity, and there's lots of malt here, too. A hint of espresso bitter emerges in the aftertaste. A true rendition of a style I am not crazy about, it does what it needs to do. Well done.
