Served on-tap at Mutz in the Oliver House/Maumee Bay complex.
A: The saison is a hazy golden yellow color, replete with a finger of foamy white head.
S: Lots of candi sugars, pale with a lighter citrus fruit flavor.
T: The flavor upfront is pleasantly strong, full of pale candi sugars and pepper. As the initial blast fades, a malty thinness emerges that seems unable to carry the big upfront flavor. The candi sugars don't disappear though, re-appearing near the end of the sip to see the beer away.
M: Touches of pepper and anise blanket the tastebuds, strong and unafraid to shine. The middle of the sip is where things ease up a little too much.
D: If I'd been here before, I wouldn't've hesitated to get another glass, but there were too many other things to try. The ale could use more mid-sip bite.
