on tap mackenzie river pizza west billings. pretty boring for big sky, who can make some pretty killer stuff. this one lets me down across the board. under carbonated flat looking clear amber tinted beer. a nose of simple bittering hops and a little more caramel malt balance than is necessary. the flavor is equally drab, no brightness at all on the hops, and not much flavor either, a pretty mundane beer, lackluster to say the least. what i like about it though is its inability to distract from the interesting pizzas on the menu there. this will never get in the way of your meal, although lacking much carbonation it may sit in your gut a little and limit your slice intake. i had a ton of awesome beer in montana this weekend, but this one was probably the least impressive of the lot. nothing remarkable at all, albeit no way off flavors, it just did very little for me and a pint was more than enough. this came across to me as a craft brew for the non-craft beer drinker. overly safe for me.

Type: 16-oz. bottle
Glass: Pint glass
From: MacKenzie River Pizza in Spokane, Wash.
Price: $3.50 (Happy Hour)
Purchased: March 21, 2014
Consumed: March 21, 2014
Misc.: Apparently their house beer that Big Sky Brewing Company made for them
Poured a caramel, orange clear color with one finger of white head. Average amount of spiderweb lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average retention.
Smelled iced tea, rye, caramel, nickel and lemon.
Tasted fairly similar, getting iced tea, rye hops, caramel, nickel and lemon.
Light body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Longer, clean finish.
A decent pale ale overall, but nothing more than that.
