A dark sour Adambier? I was expecting a slight darkness but holy shit this pours a gloppy motor oil black with a thick and super dense mocha head that takes its sweet time receding to a thick film and wavy, fluid lace.
Smell is tart cherry and red grape with dark roasted malt, nuts, soft chocolate peanut butter cookie and toffee. A totally unexpected pleasure!
Taste is loads of dark roasted chewy chocolate and coffee-esque malt that quickly and expertly shares the stage with tart cherry, raspberry, blueberry, apple and grape with a hint of woody maple. The beer is certainly a sour, but mildly so, in the same vain as Funk Metal and Professor Black, two of my favorite beers out of Texas. This may not hit quite the same notes, but its damned close.
There is a substantial amount of dark ass sediment in the bottle, which is unusual for these guys, and it brings significantly more chocolate and coffee in the second half the pour from the bomber, with even some dense bourbon barrel-like vanilla as it warms.
The body actually thins out after the head recedes, and does not quite retain the thickness that other Frog stouts do throughout, but it's still moderate to full with a soft, crisp fizz with a dry, chewy tart finish.

A "German-style sour dark adambier."
I in no way feel qualified to rate this, as it's the first of the style I've ever had...rating is purely based on my enjoyment of the beer.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
