Pure onyx with a dark mocha, almost mahogany blanket that settles to a thin film and some foggy lace.
Smell is charred oak and vanilla with chocolate Tootsie Rolls, banana skin, dark roasted coffee, bourbon, and a hint of toasted marshmallow.
Taste is damn rich and intense starting with a deep, dark roasty malt giving off heavy coffee notes, paired with an oaky vanilla char, finishing with a chewy, hot swallow of bourbon or rum and a walnutty exhale that seductively asks for one more sip after another--a major accomplishment for this 13.8% stout. Amidst this abundance of complexity is all sorts of dark, rich chocolate, and a nice faint touch of smoke.
Body is full, thick and mildly frothy, and mostly balanced with a little bite. Finish is both sticky and semi-dry.
I had my last bottle a year and a half later--it only got better. Woodier, chocolatier, marshmallowier. Wow. I hope they spoil the Rare Beer Club with another release of this.
