Pouring a brilliant copper, this fills to darker hazy burnt reddish-copper with a bubbly beige head that settles to a thin film and a creamy persistent collar.
Smell is toasted caramely biscuit with grape that can even exude red wine at times, as well as raisin, sun-dried tomatoes and hints of char and molasses.
On the palate, there's a little sting that smooths out to a slick, thinly crisp but soft carbonation that delivers flavors of toasty char, sticky molasses, grapes, raisins, figs, and even Madeira wine that's semi-dry, soft and smooth on the swallow.
This is a 7-year-old bottle, and the first time I've tasted it. I was not even expecting this to taste good, but it isn't just good, it's delicious!
---
The 2011 vintage of Naked Evil is still an impressively fine libation after all these years, here now in February 2022, and my above notes are astonishingly spot on still to this day.
Man were these guys unabashed trailblazers. And the quality bar they set, which they continue to meet to this day with their newest releases, is tippy top.
---
Having another at least 15 year old bottle at Dark Lord Day 2026, it's still a total mindfuck that this doesn't suck and is actually quite good. There were people in the crowd just in awe of it.
