Aged in the same kind of Canadian whiskey barrels that are used for BORIS Royale, this Canadian-style Barleywine, brewed with Canadian malt, was originally aged with specially-selected maple syrup and freshly-milled aromatic soft maple wood.

Pouring a clear copper ribbon, this fills to a chill hazed dark copper-brown, but then clears back up to a shimmering brandy appearance. A quick to fizzle out bubbly head leaves the thinnest tan chain.
Smell is red candy apple and caramel with charred banana bread at first, but quickly as its warming, black peppery oak and a darker whiskey-esque vanilla emerge to add complexity.
Taste starts off boozy with brandy & whiskey undertones as softening notes of caramel, butterscotch wafer, and vanilla frosting smooth it out. The barrel comes through big time here, with a significant charred oak presence as it warms, while a hint of chocolate dipped banana comes out with the Rolo-flavored swallow.
The moderately light body has a crisp but minimal fizz that leads into a sticky, semi-dry and stinging finish.
Sitting on this beer over time, as I write this particular note 2.5 years later, it develops an even more forward expression of char, as well as new, unique notes of decadently crystalized maple brulee. Absolutely delicious.
