Felt the orange (more prominent on taste) and hazelnut (more prominent on nose) clashed rather than accentuated each other. It improves as it warms, but I still find them at odds. Wish they'd left out the orange as I found the hazelnut complimentary to BORIS. Wouldn't recommend this brew.

I intentionally poured this aggressively because I wanted to release the aromas. It poured jet black with a nice dark brown 3/8" head which dissipated quickly. The aroma was one step short of amazing! One step short because it started out amazing and ended slightly artificial.
I could immediately tell that this needed to warm up a bit and that I should have let it come up to temp before pouring it.
Halfway through and I haven't tasted or smelled hazelnut. The orange continues to be inviting but quickly turns to a chemical smell/taste. That is not meant to be a turn-off but the orange smell and taste don't seem real. It's still a delicious combination with the underlying BORIS but ........ artificial.
As I slowly sip this to let it warm up a bit, I just keep playing the same record over and over in my head....."I wish Fred would stick to what he does as well as anyone in the world". He continues to cave to the fad of dessert beers and that's fine but not when it means that we don't get anymore of the great stouts and barrel aged stuff he is really good at.
Three quarters through and still no hazelnut, the orange is over shadowing it I guess. The orange is becoming too much. This beer just doesn't have the feel that BORIS, or any of the other world class stouts, have. The scores keep going down.......bummer.
I am reminded of Orange GLO wood cleaner and polish.
I will try one of these at 55 degrees and see if there is any improvement.
Last sip and there was never a hint of hazelnut........ever!

8 ball black with a tan foam head that's tall and fluffy, settling very slowly to a thin ring.
Smell is stunningly bright of orange up front, even conjuring up Crush soda comparisons, leaving the roasted malt and hazelnut to creep in after.
In contrast, the smoothly rounded full body comes off more stout-like at first taste, with a pleasant pairing of chocolate malt and hazelnut spread. Bright orange then spritzes in after into a semi-dry, slightly sharp finish.
Hazelnut pairs very well with BORIS. However, while the orange provides a unique approach, it does seem a little artificial. I wish they would use whole ingredients in these Evolutions, because they would really pop in elevating the already excellent base.
