Thanks to Jonphisher for this one. 22oz bottle (no visible date) poured into 16oz Willi Becher. Poured a solid black color with a quarter-inch of tan head that had low retention and lacing.

The aroma had lots of chocolate and coconut, as one would expect from a beer calling itself a German Chocolate Cake Ale.

Same on the tongue, with the addition of some alcohol heat.

The body was medium-full, smooth, and had a semi-sweet finish.

Drinkability was good, a very enjoyable quaff.

Overall, a pretty nice brew, worth trying if you see it.

Kukoo Für Kuchen from Hoppin’ Frog. Received on 1/3/21, 2021 - Rare Beer Club bomber picked up at the brewery. Stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 14/3/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated bottle. Served at 47.4 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 53.1 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Amber brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. When rear-lite, same with effervescence.
Head – Average (Maximum three cm, aggressive center pour), wheat, high density, average retention, leaving a two to four mm crown fed by effervescence, and a thin partial cap. Second pour produces a 0.5 cm cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – Very strong aroma of German Chocolate Cake but mostly tends toward coco with some pecan but no coconut or vanilla. No hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 4.25 – Begins slightly bitter, marked cocoa flavor with hints of pecans. No hop flavor, no yeast. No vanilla and only a ghost of coconut. No alcohol (8 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma, although a gastric burn smolders for a while prior to igniting. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium, almost creamy, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 (After deducting 0.25 point for undated personal container) Markedly smells and tastes like German Chocolate Cake, sans coconut and vanilla. The chocolate shines and the pecans are definitely there. Mouthfeel is better than most sweet/milk lactose bombs.

Glossy black with clear brown edges under a softly dense moderate tan head settling to an unevenly puffy film and thin collar.

This tastes just like their hazelnut cake beer, except for hints of charred coffee and brown sugar, along with a little silky, very lightly toasted coconut, all of which largely come out in the exhale.

The smoothly medium round body is lightly fluffy, finishing semi-dry with a light sting that seems to be more from the flavoring than any alcohol.

Considering it's a Rare Beer Club bottle, it's a bit of a disappointment, but it's still a tasty, easy drinker for the size and style. But I can't help but think this would have been far more successful if they'd have started with their chocolate martini base and added real coconut, and maybe even real pecans or walnuts.
