Black color. Thin, beige head. Roasted malt, rye bread, dark fruits, chocolate, and wood are in the aroma. It has a smooth, malty taste with a dry finish and roasted bitterness. Good.

Copenhagen 14/10 2022. 65 cl bottle from Mikkeller & Friends Bottle shop, Torvehallerne, Kbh. K. Dark green label with the cute logo with the little frog.
Pours opaque, dark brown with a big beige head. Settles as thin but unbroken layer of foam just covering the surface of the beer. No lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense with a dark, potent and earthy scent. Dark roasted malts, licorice, dark chocolate, dark bread and peat. Hints of alcohol and brown sugar.
Low carbonation. Thick, viscous, oily, fat, soft,, smooth and almost flat texture. A little sticky.
Flavor is intense with a light sweetness followed by a strong bitterness with a salty tang. Aftertaste is bitter with a salty touch. Lingering. Finish is rather dry.
Potent and fairly bitter Imperial Powerhouse.

Received from @ozzylizard. In the glass this is the darkest of browns and fully opaque, but on the pour there were some reddish hues with some light passing through. Small-ish amount of brown sugar colored head that receded relatively quickly leaving behind a thin ring.
Aroma is rich chocolate malts. Sweeter than I was anticipating and no detectable alcohol or barrel. That changes on the tongue, as the rye barrel was the first thing I noticed, immediately followed by plenty of roasted malts and faint chocolate. I don't believe coffee was added, but you could have fooled me.
Little in the way of alcohol other than a very slight warming sensation. Feel slightly thinner than I would have expected based on the style, but nothing significant. Overall, a very tasty brew.

No secret that i love me some Hoppin Frog BORIS
When poured out its a bit thinner that other Thick Boy BORIS variants but this is no problem for me.
Smell is all Rye Barrel Spice, Cocoa Nibs, Espresso and Dark Chocolate layers.
Taste follows with a bitter Rye backend and slight alcohol tingle.
God damned good beer. Want more!

Barrel Aged Rye BORIS Batch 400 from Hoppin’ Frog Brewing. 16 oz can purchased at the brewery, stored in a reefer, $11.75 (Including tax), $ 0.735/oz. Stored at 37 degrees after purchase. Reviewed 09/04/22. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of the can stamped “BEST BY AUG 13, 2024. Served at 55.4 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 60.9 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Deep Brown, (SRM 30), opaque.
Body – Deep Brown (SRM 30), opaque. When rear-lite, weak light penetration at the edges with the bottom being ruby brown and the top being butterscotch.
Head – Average (Maximum 1.3 cm, aggressive center pour), tan, rapidly diminishes to leave a 0.2 cm crown fed several places by effervescence and a partial cap of microscopic bubbles.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – Weak roasted malt and chocolate, weakly spicy. No hops, no yeast, no alcohol.
Flavor – 4.25 – Begins slightly sweet with roasted malt, chocolate, and some spicy overtones. No alcohol burn until it hit the stomach, producing a mild warming. No hops, no yeast. Ethanol (9.4 % ABV, as marked on container) is otherwise hidden. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4.25 – Seems a bit thin for the style, creamy, soft caressing carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 Seems to be a bit thinner the basic BORIS but the rye barrels and added rye adjoin a bit of spiciness absent in the base beer. Seems to not have held up as well as expected but still a comforting beer to drink – glad I have several more on hand!

Thanks to Ozzylizard for this one, from NBS BIF #14. Poured a solid black color with a thin cap of tan head that moderate retention and light lacing.
A solid base beer scent provided the base for some crisp Rye notes. Very similar on the tongue, with a bit of barrel popping through too.
The body was full, but maybe a bit thinner than is typical for the style. Drinkability was good, a nice easy quaff on this snowy christmas day. Overall, a very nice brew, grab one if you see it.

8 ball black with a short mocha head that retains well despite being audibly fizzy up front, settling to a thin but creamy blanket.
While a little spicier than the base, it's still exceedingly peanutty, fluffy and malty. It's also seemingly more bitter on the back end, verging away from the coffee I got in the base, and more towards earth, root and even char.
This uniquely challenging, full-bodied brew slowly comes to a semi-dry finish, while up front it's invitingly round and fulfilling with a savory cocoa roast.
