Thick, black and oily looking, small brown head, no lacing. Nose is boozy, coffee, and some chocolate. Taste buds get that also. smooth, creamy mouthfeel. a really nice beer.

Pours in typical thick black oil Hoppin Frog style into glass with a large head(aggressive pour as always) and settles with a half cm ring of tan bubblies . Smells like dark roasted coffee and dark cocoa with sweet dark malts. No hint of barrel so far. Taste is similar with really very little barrel heat. Very smooth and the barrel precense is very muted. Dark and semisweet chocolate, roasted malt, house roast style coffee and a some vanilla/hazelnut sweetness that i am not a fan of as it kinda gives it that 7-11/starbucks syrup pump coffee flavor. Nice full mouthfeel as with all Hoppin Frog Stouts
Easy to drink and good on this hot afternoon. It finishes a bit too sweet for my liking , but that ain't stoppin me

Glossy black with a moderate tan froth settling to a sparse film and short ring leaving small spots of lace.
A surprisingly more toasty, bitter coffee provides a contrasting bite to the dark chocolatey undertones.
While the barrel seems to provide a warming presence not found in the base, it otherwise does not offer a lot of actual character.
As always, though, BORIS is solidly drinkable.
---
As tends to perpetually be the case with HoFro, six months into this packaged product's lifespan, it seems to have improved, and markedly so. There is more mocha character to enjoy, and while still quite bitter, it somehow seems to be a little boozier, making for this sipper's long session to feel more mature as time goes on.
All that said, I'll stick to my guns as I always do and won't alter my original score based on personal cellaring.
