Burnt red edges line a muddled black body with little head to speak of, unsurprisingly for this 9 year old (2014) stout.
Yet, for its age, this is super clean and freshly roasty with absolutely no oxidation that I can detect, which isn't just crazy for the age but also the fact that it is of course barrel aged to begin with.
A maraschino cherry nose meets a chocolate palate that comes to a softly oaky, bone dry finish. A little hickory and some light heat crop up in the exhale as it warms. The medium body still contains a fine carbonation.
This was much better than I thought it would be, particularly in anticipation of the cherry. I also never thought this one was still alive, but Fred's dungeon has proven to be deep and wide!
