Aged in chicory barrels for a coffee-like, nutty, toasty flavor and aroma. Along with a slight deeply caramelized sugar character, this aging added a wonderful balance and immense complexity to this dark, lightly sour German-style ale.

1 PINT can
Served in a teku glass
This beer pours a murky brown hue reminiscent of my toilet water after a long weekend of drinking. It is topped with a fleeting head that leaves absolutely no lacing.
It has a chocolate and cinnamon aroma. Tart cherry aroma. Figs and dates.
The taste follows the smell. Tart cherry. Hints of spiced chocolate. It is definitely tart and oaky.
Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel
Different and interesting beer for sure.

16 ounce can, best before SEP 13 2033 stamped on the bottom of the can. Served in a Hoppin' Frog snifter, the beer pours a murky dark brown color with some tinges of ruby red. There's also about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is a bit muted, but still nice. The brew smells mostly like chicory, along with some plum, caramel, and dark breadiness. The taste does have a little more of a kick. It's similar to the aroma, but there's also some cherry, cacao and vanilla flavors noticeable too. Slight bit of fruity tartness. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and a bit coating with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. Easy enough to drink. Worth a try if you come across a single can, I'd like to try a fresher version of this at some point.

Muddy brown with a short and airy tan foam head that dies off fairly quickly.
The barrel has a really impactful influence on this beer, giving off oodles of caramels, tobaccos, prunes, and even seeming to tamp down the berliner's acidity, all while even adding some char and vanillin to the exhale. The finish is chewy dry yet unendingly deep. Hints of cocoa and cinnamon even crop up.
What the hell is this unbelievably complex mindfuck?! This pairs insanely well with the slight crabapple tartness of the Flanders brown-esque base.
I'm definitely going to need to talk to someone about wtf a chicory barrel is, because I love me some Nola coffee, and even have a bag of Community in the house, but didn't know barrels were involved.
