16 ounce can, best by DEC 8 2026 stamped on the bottom of the can. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a somewhat murky mahogany brown/reddish color with not quite an inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. I like the aroma, the brew smells mostly like chestnuts, along with some dark bread, toasted malt and some black tea. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some earthy and herbal flavors. Not quite as pleasing as the aroma is to me but still OK. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick and easy to drink with a good amount of soft carbonation. I liked this one, worth picking up especially if you like chestnuts and winter warmer brews!

Roasted Chestnut Winter Warmer – from Hoppin’ Frog. 16 fl oz can acquired from the brewery. Picked up 12/12/23 for $ 7.57 (including tax)/16 fl oz can ($ 0.473/fl oz). Reviewed 15/01/24 (Review 3220). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
On bottom of can “BEST BY DEC 8 2026”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 56.8 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 60.6 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), clear.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, ruby, and translucent.
Head: Large (Maximum 4.8 cm, aggressive center pour), almond, high density with a rocky top, average retention, dropping to a 0.5 – 1.2 cm lacy crown, and a thin cap.
Lacing – Poor. Specks of degenerated foam remain, making the glass look dirty.
Aroma – 4. – Weak aroma, slightly sweet, of toasted malt. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol (9.5% ABV as marked on the label).
Flavor – 4 – Begins toasted with a flavor I can’t place, maybe chestnuts. No yeast, no alcohol, no hops. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Instant moderate gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Medium; bordering on creamy; soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 I haven’t seen chestnuts in at least a decade, let alone eaten them, so I can’t say the aroma and/or flavor are present. This definitely tastes of toasted malt, slightly sweet, with another flavor present. Very quaffable with a decent price point.
