Rum Barrel Aged Banana Daiquiri from Hoppin’ Frog. 16 fl oz can. Rare Beer Club selection from Hoppin’ Frog, Akron, OH, 10/12/24. Reviewed 15/12/24 (Review 3419). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “?????? OCT 8 2024.” (I think, somewhat smudged and overlapping) Stored at 39 degrees F at home. Served at 45.1 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 54.5 degrees F.
Appearance – 3 – looks like an infected urine specimen – makes me want to do a Gram stain and call the ordering doc.
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), opaque.
Body – Straw (SRM 3), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, glows straw.
Head: Average (Maximum 1.0 cm, aggressive center pour), ivory. High density. Rapidly drops to a 0.2 – 0.3 cm crown and no cap.
Lacing – Excellent. As the level drops, bands of near-microscopic bubbles arc, with a few rounded stalactites hanging in the upper window.
Aroma – 3 – Very little. No hops, no malt, only vague banana. No ethanol (9.1% ABV, as marked on label). No disulfide or diacetyl.
Flavor – 3 – Banana followed by a weak bite of spiced rum, only hints of sourness. No hops, no malt. No disulfides, no diacetyl. Gastric warming is subdued.
Palate – 4 – Full; creamy; soft carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 3.25 The last several cans I’ve had from the Frog have had partially legible dating – seems to be an on-going problem that needs correcting.
However, this beer is not a beer I’d drink again. Just because all the other kids are brewing one is no reason for the Frog to brew one as well. One and done.

Banana smoothie in a glass, it even has these little pockets of carbonation that get stuck in the body and appear as unblended chunks of banana. It's a pale tan-peach color, opaque as pudding but more fluid, under a thin white blanket.
Basically one of their Smooches gone tiki, it's a thick and velvety banana smoothie hit with spiced dark rum barrel. It's got notes of charred brown sugar and cinnamon pie crust in the background, and perhaps a hint of molasses, but runs with boozy banana well. The nanner isn't too banana-forward, and actually sometimes comes across more like nila. Adventurous.
