Top Shelf RBC Project from Hoppin’ Frog. 16 fl oz can. Rare Beer Club (RBC) selection from Hoppin’ Frog, Akron, OH, 10/12/24. Reviewed 17/12/24 (Review 3421). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “BEST BY SEPT 26 2027.” Stored at 39 degrees F at home. Served at 51.2 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 58.6 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale Amber (SRM 9), hazy.
Body – Medium amber (SRM 12), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, translucent amber.
Head: Average (Maximum 3.4 cm, aggressive center pour), pearl. High density and creamy. Rapidly drops to a 1.0 – 1.6 cm crown spottily fed by carbonation and a thin cap.
Lacing – Excellent. Band of tiny bubbles remains as the head retracts. As the level drops, multiple connected bands ride the descending volume, coating the inside of the snifter.
Aroma – 4.25 – Mild whiskey aroma. No hops, initially no bitters, no barrels. No ethanol (9.8 % ABV, as marked on label). No disulfide or diacetyl. As it warms/breathes, some cherry and weak citrus appear.
Flavor – 4.5 – Begins with a mild whiskey flavor. No hops, no ethanol. Very weak cherry/citrus on the aftertaste. A ghost of oak barrels tannin. No disulfides, no diacetyl. Faint gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Full; almost creamy; soft carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 Finally! A legibly dated can! And the best non-B.O.R.I.S.-based beer I’ve had from the Frog in some time. Both amazingly easy drinking and tasty. Dunno if this tastes like a whiskey sour – I haven’t had one in a few decades – but this is damned good!

Foggy dark amber, nearing brown, under a khaki head of moderate height ringed by a doily ridge.
Holy fucking shit, this is the most on target cocktail-inspired beer they've made. It's spot on whiskey sour, but for a little more body, plus the carbonation of course.
It's got that chewy whiskey oak, but without any burn, meeting more subtle Angostura here than the previous Manhattan one they did. Plus it's not actually tart.
There's even a hint of Luxardo cherry in the swallow, where it comes back to some peppery whiskey, mild caramel and vanillin. Sometimes I get apple fritter.
Damn, this is wayyyy too easy to drink.
