Blood Moon Red Ale drips with rich caramel malts, a sinister crimson hue, and just enough bite to keep you looking over your shoulder. This is the 2nd of 4 limited releases designed by Chris Garofalo, merging the bold artistry of Akron’s Killer Video with Hoppin’ Frog’s signature brewing style. Smooth. Bold. Dangerously drinkable. It’s the kind of beer you crack open when the VHS hums, the synth swells, and something lurks just beyond the glow of the screen…

16oz can from Tavour. Clear, dark amber, thin layer of tight cream colored head. Sweet, malty aroma. Taste brings in some tannic flavors, malty, brown sugar, toffee, sweet. Sweetness lingers.

Killer Video Blood Moon from Hoppin’ Frog. Four-pack of 16 fl oz cans picked up at the brewery, 16/10/25 - $17.59 (Including tax and tip)/$ 0.275/fl oz. Reviewed 24/10/25, review 3617. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “BEST BY JUN 2? 2026.” Stored at home at 40 degrees F. Served at 43.3 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 57.2 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Orange (SRM ?), clear. The second pour was more Medium Amber (SRM 12), much less orange (Oxygenation? CO2 degassing?).
Body – Chestnut (SRM 15), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, light pases through easily, red-amber.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.2 cm, aggressive center pour). Baja White, high density, average retention, leaving a 0.3 – 0.5 cm crown and a thin complete cap.
Lacing – None to poor – two tiny islands of tiny bubbles hang on the glass.
Aroma – 3 – Virtually none – just some slightly sweet caramel malt.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins weakly sweet and malty. No hops, no alcohol (4.9 % ABV, according to the label). No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Medium: Watery: Soft carbonation.
Style: Follows the BA style description.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 Art work credited to Chris Garofalo! Just a drinkable Red Ale – nothing to see here. Fruit Fly ignored.
