Fundraising recipe for Protect Our Winters (POW).

While today we may have the luxury of chasing storms for the best powder, the future of snow is at risk. Protect Our Winters is fighting to protect that luxury, with a passion that we share, and an authenticity that we value. This group of athletes, advocates, and enthusiasts call themselves "dirtbags and diehards", and for them, winter is not just a passion, but a way of life. In Truckee, we are dirtbags and diehards in our own way, and our environment is our way of life.

WE ALL NEED WINTER, FIND YOUR BALANCE.

Had this in Summer 2018. FiftyFifty tends to be super reliable consistency when it comes to most of their beers, but the hoppy ones have historically been the exception.

Ski imagery on the label, nice. Slightly concerned as the label gives more marketing social cause information than beer ingredients. Light citrus note in the aroma. Lager yeast not evident. Could be a lightly hopped Citra beer. Has more of a candied citrus little note than it does grapefruit rind.

EDIT: The last time I had this, I scored it 4s all the way across. So previous score was 3.54, (3.75/3.5/3.5/3.75/3.5), it will bump higher with the more recent tasting averaged in.
Taste imparts more of a light lager feeling, and despite the lightly hopped designation, its more noticeable here than in the aroma (I doubt it was dry hopped after tasting more of what I was smelling). Its an easy drinking lager with a hint more of hops than your average mass produced one. At this point, its been awhile since I've seen it so I'm kind of wondering if its retired. Its a pretty sawft lager with some Citra hops and nothing much else going on, good, simple, easy going. Mt. Rose rules.

a really cool lager beer, the only one i think they had going while i was in. its done with an environmental charity doing climate change work, so there is a great and critical cause associated with this. its nice blonde lager, liberally dry hopped but not forced or out of balance at all. its got a nice deep golden color to it, but has a lighter crackery european pils type nose to me, a briskness in the grain that i really like with the fruity hops here, and a clean but not irrelevant strain of lager yeast done right. the flavor is clean and layered, a bit more complex than most of these ever get, with the hops coming on just past mid palate and carrying it all a little further than they usually are capable of going, subtle lemon, green tea, and dried flowery notes to the hops, new school varietals, although im not sure what they use. the yeast has a soft biscuity thing to it, but is really crisp by the end, and there is a nice mineral profile that helps this finish and makes it refreshing. not quite as light as it could be, but for a beer about winter, i think the body makes good sense. carbonation is decent, beer is bright and fresh, and overall this is a darn tasty offering, one they should consider making all the time!

edit: had this again many years later and it seemed just as hoppy if not more so than i recall, modern and resinous without ever making it heavy or bitter, some dankness, orchard fruit character, and light oils from the hops adding to the mouthfeel, slick and easy drinking still, fresh as can be right at the brewery too, excellent modern american craft lager that works all year round despite the wintery name...

Can dated 12/18/17 into a willi glass.

L: Pours bright light golden with 1+ finger of low-density white head with good retention and left mixed lacing.

S: Cracker malt prominent, citrus undertones. Achieves more balance as it warmed.

T: Follows the nose to a degree, more citrus prominence, but a bit mute. Enjoyed it, but wanted more pop. Finishes bright and crisp.

F: Light bodied with medium-high carbonation. Bubbly on the tongue.

O: A nice american pale lager and for a good cause. I'd buy again for both the beer and the cause.
