22oz bottle served in a large mug. Bottled on 08/29/17.
Pours a dark amber/brown, a little bit hazy, maybe some floaters. Medium to large head, medium carbonation. I would call this an "imperial red" by the looks. Head is even a light tan. Smell is super juicy. Like a blast of juicy fruit, the gum. With a little background resin.
Taste is clearly juicy in the same fashion, but not overwhelmingly so. Has a strong toasty malt character and medium-to-heavy bitterness.
Mouthfeel is thick, chewy. Overall, solid beer.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a speiglau ipa glass.
Look is a dark reddish brown, semi cola with an off white head. A lot darker than I expected.
Aroma is malty sweet with grassy herbal malts.
Taste is a balance of herbal hops and sweet molasses malt. A lot darker and richer malt than I expected but good.

Poured a copper brown body with minimal head but left a lace ring down glass. Aroma is less hoppy, although a soapy, sudsy, hop aroma persists, and more a of a malty and boozy punch to the nose - it's strong. A little rough as it's soapy, even veggie the hops are so bitter and earthy and has this musty/musky thick malt taste and mouthfeel going so it's a fuller beer with this dry finish. After a few sips the beer seems to settle and offers up hints of grapefruit hops under the bitter hop/thick+malty base and there is occasional sweetness but this is mainly an "old-school" IPA that focuses on bitter/citric hops.

From the right side of the label: " BOTTLED ON 08 29 2017"
Appearance: This is a very dark Double IPA. The body is a dark brown color that is too opaque to see through. It has a rocky textured, eggshell white colored head. It has very good retention and lacing.
Aroma: It has a nice fresh hop aroma full of grapefruit and tangerine. The aroma pops right out of the glass to greet the nose.
Taste: Up front there is this big grain flavor that hits the palate. A wonderfully juicy grapefruit flavor joins the bread-like grain flavor in the middle of the mouth. The finish is a nice bitter grapefruit flavor that is not harsh. Each sip is enjoyable and both the grain and hop flavors keep pulling me back in. There is a lingering aftertaste of spruce to this beer.
Mouthfeel: The beer has a dry finish but there is a medium-light body to the beer. It doesn't have any texture and it isn't smooth but it fits snugly with the flavor profile. The bitterness is not harsh but it also feels a tad low for a Double IPA. It might be a bit low but it works well for the beer overall.
Overall: I was very pleased with the quality of this beer. Quite simply it is well made and it is very enjoyable to drink. There is no sacrifice in either grain or hop flavors with this beer as you get an equal share of both. I would buy it again and I would recommend it.

Good solid DIPA. Pours a reddish, amber color from a bomber into a pint glass. Good size antique white frothy head with fairly good retention and plenty of thin bands of lacing on the glass. Aroma is piney hops and caramel malt. Flavor include resiny, piney hops and sweet caramel malt. The flavor is strong and satisfying with a good amount of bitternes. Mouthfeel is crisp and rich. Bitterness combined with sweet caramel malt is a winner. Nice balance. AleWerks does a good job with bitter beers. I am a fan of Bitter Valentine, like this one too!!!!
