Coconut Brown Lager

No, it’s not a typo. Thurday mid-week special! Dark shoe-leather brown and effervescent, reminiscent of coconut cream pie. Something a little different to try.

On the pour (got one can of this and pumplestiltzkin that I split in a sort of christmas taster with my girlfriend) the beer is dark brown and appears quite hazy. Not much head but there is some especially when the pour gets rough but it dissipates fast.

The smell is almost all coconut vanilla that I'm picking up, but I am a bit sick right now so I might be a bit off. There is some hops I am picking up which seems odd for the style but not the brewery.

Taste is similar to the smell but theres an odd aftertaste that I am not enjoying. Almost tart in character and that doesnt go too well with the flavors they added, but again I am a bit sick. Not all that sweet but the coconut is very prominent and isnt subtle in any way shape or form.

Feel is heavy for a lager but it's probably mostly the flavors they added and the intense nuttiness. It does seem to linger a bit.

Overall I didnt enjoy it all that much but I feel like I need to revisit this one day since my taste and smell just feel off. It's hard to tell of theres something funky or if it's just me.

L:. Pours a dark orange Amber brown with a medium brown head and thick fingers of lacing.

S:. Toasted bread caramel and toffee, notes of sweet coconut and some chocolate.

T:. Sweet caramel, apple and bread, with a hint of coconut, a nice taste.

F:. Smooth and easy drinking.

O:. This is a very nice lager.

22oz bottle that was brought to me from the brewery in Del Norte. Light brown color. Aroma is tasty coconut. Flavor has a nice mellow coconut and easy to drink. Surprising.

22 oz bomber pours a surprisingly dark brown color with a small tan head. Not much for retention or lace...possibly due to the coconut oils.

Holy shit, this beer smells almost perfect! Wow, the coconut really pops and the toasty, chocolate malt notes are a perfect compliment. This is the closest thing to an Almond Joy beer have ever smelled...lets see if the taste can match this awesomeness.

Wow. Incredible....this beer is right in my wheelhouse. Coconut is the main focal point and the malts are very complimentary - well rounded, nutty and chocolaty. This might be the biggest surprise beer for me this year. I absolutely love it. I wouldnt hesitate to buy a keg of it and could drink a few pints erryday. Kudos, Three Barrel...kudos indeed.

i disagree profusely with the other reviewers of this one, and think its probably the best three barrel beer to come out so far, its absolutely delicious, and i cant get enough. agree that its thin in looks, light brown and not a ton of head to it, but the aroma is incredible. its like suntan lotion on a hot chick in the tropics, who doesnt want to sniff that? chocolate undertones, but it doesnt smell or taste like dessert. the fact that its a lager i think is some of its real genius. its dryer and smoother as a result, and the beer tastes mature already. the coconut aspect is just enormous in the taste, its such a strong flavor, but its authentic and not at all cloying. it marries magically with the chocolate malt, and the fact that the beer is on the lighter side helps it come through that much more. the finish is almost too quick, as i want to keep tasting it longer, and it makes me drink the beer pretty fast to keep chasing it, like eating pistachios where you can never crack and eat one before the one you are already eating is gone, thus never a whole mouthful of them, frustrating but you appreciate that about them. this beer has similar mouthfeel properties to that experience. easily my favorite these guys have done, i hope they make it a full timer.

Pours a nice dark brown with ruby hues. Very thin tan head, like cola.
Aromas of cocoanut. Pleasant bit no other beer aromas at all.
Starr's thin and watery. A bit of sweetness followed by a slight sourness. Hints of cocoanut but nothing that tells me it's an alt. it finishes a bit sour and thin, without that crispness you expect from a lager.

Thin and light bodied mouthfeel.

Overall pretty disappointed. The cocoanut is very well done but the beer is very watery, has no malt backbone to speak of and is just a bit tart like something went wrong in fermentation. Meh
