these guys get no love despite thoughtful and ambitious beers. i think its because their packaging looks amateur at best and gimmicky at worst, really lousy way to present such tasty beer, ive liked all ive had from these guys over the last little while. this is an intelligently brewed honey kolsch, a technically very solid classic german style crusher at its base, made genuinely and kept very light. the honey is an awesome add, and i always have thought that the crispness of the kolsch style, its lightness but often slightly floral pale malt character would be a nice fit with honey, and sure enough it is! the base beer is wisely kept very light, even for the style, which allows even a little honey to go a long way in here, extending the flavor, adding a natural springy vibe, and a light tasty sweet vein, all without requiring so much of it that the beer has to be sugary or heavy, its clever and executed very well. the carbonation could be picked up a little bit, its not dead but it doesnt sing either. other than that, this is a really good beer, and for how rarely i crave light beers, i find myself wanting more of this one!
