very unique brew, on tap upstairs at wynkoop brewery. pours a heady brown color with a nice copper glow. the smell is insane! smells exactly like a stack of waffles covered in maple syrup. no kidding. maybe not even the best waffles, maybe more like freshman dining hall breakfast. all the same, its an amazing welcome smell in a beer. like nothing before. thank the molasses for that i reckon. flavor is not like waffles at all, but is over the top sweet. there must be a fair bit of undigested sugar here, this is too too sweet. under the sugar though, there is some really nice spiced characteristics, and a great malt profile. feel is ruined by the sweetness, but the body and carbonation are both appropriate. overall a very interesting brew, not like anything ive had before. i am now curious to try more pagosa brews!

I've had this recipe from different brewpubs for the 300th Bday of ole Ben. Classifying this as Old Ale, although it's probably more akin to American Brown b/c of corn ingredient. No worries...

A light brown, rich looking beer. Small head, forming a tan collar as it sits.

Nutty and fruity aroma, some soft roasted malts. This is not a strong smell, but effective...mouth waters.

Sweet brown sugar/molasses comes and goes in the taste. Bready to a point, nutty and orchard fruits just barely persist. Tastes like it would be thicker, but it's actually easy drinking..just shy of 'thin'.
