Presentation: Sampled at the William IV Public House in Albury heath deep in the area of outstanding natural beauty known as the Surrey Hills, and within spitting distance of the Surrey Hills Brewery.
Listed as Ranmore Ale - ABV 3.6%, and served from the Beer Engine.
Appearance: As the William IV is quite literally yards from the Brewery, it was no surprise that this was fresh. Golden body with a pale amber look. White head bubbles but does not last very long. Good conditioning.
Nose and Taste: Wet straw and a fresh but light hoppy nose. Middle has a tepid malt character but the soft flowery hops tend to take over in the finish. Dry bitter finish with a floral depression after the swallow. Very clean with simple lines but makes very effective use of what is here.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied, but far from wishy-washy. The conditioning is good and what is here is put to good use. Never rises above an average feel but the bodies balance is perfectly set against the flavor profile.
Drinkability: A cracking Session beer, light but wholesome with enough taste to keep you interested whilst slaking your thirst admirably. A go-to brew after a hard day at work and one that will happily keep you company all night with no problems.
Overall: The Ranmore Ale was the second beer that I tried from the Surrey Hills Brewery, and it left an equally impressive impression as did the first. A clean, easy drinking flavorful brew that that a lovely crisp bitter finish.
