Using a combination of the finest, characterful hops we could find, Hawkstone IPA is a treat for the senses. With bursts of tropical and citrus, and richness from the malt, it's perfectly balanced with the hop bitterness that runs through.

Bottle. Amber. Thin head.
A gentle aroma of English hops and mild malt which both continue into the flavour. A medium bitter completion.
Light body with a bright carbonation.
A low ABV English IPA all the way.

330ml brown glass bottle.
L: Clear, golden amber colour with one finger of foam that collapses to a smear.
S: Green hops and a hint of spice.
T: Heather honey and stewed tea. Some bitterness but not much. Sweet aftertaste.
F: Medium body, very oily mouthfeel, moderate carbonation
O: Honeyed and floral malt, underpinned by earthy English hops. More like an English golden ale than an English IPA, maybe? Regardless, it’s not bad, albeit a tad sweet for my taste. Would be interesting to try on cask.

My first from Hawkstone, so I went on their website: and was I ever impressed. This was sophisticated by most standards and particularly for a remote rural micro. Great photos, pithy copy, well-organized and easy to follow, I'm guessing Hawkstone's head was an advertising executive. The Cotswolds are somewhat of a mystery to me as they attract cultivated vacationers, but also promote themselves subtly... like Hawkstone's website. That's mostly why I give Hawkstone such high Overall Hugs.

Their English IPA is very much to style and how I appreciate it most: an interplay of the malt and hops from beginning to finish. While it's pretty to Look at, Smells don't strike me as distinct... actually mute. But that is compensated in the balance in which the sweet malts stay present until the finish in which the hops triumph per the style's character. Medium-mouthed. But Hawkstone's slogan is truth in advertising here: "Hard to make -- easy to drink."
